Tonite I was informed by Parker as he watched Animal Planet that Crocodiles and Wallabies are part of a reading program. When I asked him where it was at and what they do there his reply was, "The program is at the Australian zoo and I'm not sure what kind of books they are reading right now. Maybe Dr. Seusse?"
Breeding. Reading. All the programs are pretty much the same when you are 4 yrs old.

An early demonstration
This morning Lillie crawled into bed with me before Parker woke up. As we lay there she kept grabbing my hand and saying "irkles Mommy...irkles Mommy". Having no idea what she wanted and being half asleep I rolled over and ignored her. The next thing I know, I feel little breaths on my face and my eyelids being prodded open by little fingers. I open my eyes and again I hear a tiny voice whispering "Mommy, irkles peaasseeee..." Not being able to ignore her early, yet polite request I roll over and ask her to show me. She flips over on her belly, grabs my hand and puts it on her back and starts patting in "CIRCLES"...
a simple backscratch was all the little girl wanted...

Smitten

I have written about our best friends Lela and Josh and their 2 1/2 year old daughter Jovey (who Parker loves like another sister)Well, they have welcomed a new daughter, Laney to love. I think that maybe Parker may have a little crush. Here are the not so subtle hints that tipped me off...
First, after visiting with Lela yesterday, all Parker talked about for 3 hours was "how cute Laney was"... "how sweet Laney was"... "how tiny Laney was"..."how much he loved Laney and how much she loved him".
Second, when we prayed last night he prayed for Daddy, Lillie and Laney (WHAT? WHAT HAPPENED TO MOMMY?) He prayed that she would "stay little and cute and his friend forever."
Third and most glaringly obvious, this morning when I came out of the shower, sitting on the couch was our Boppy pillow. That pillow has not seen the light of day and has been stored away in Lillie's closet for 2 years now. When I inquired about it, Parker matter of factly stated. "Oh I got it out and it is ready for when Lela and Laney come to visit us."
So there is the evidence before you. Lela and Josh, I'm apologizing in advance if Parker is the source of sibling rivalry in your house for the next 18 years:)
(Oh, and I will make sure I wash the Boppy before you come over)

stating the obvious...
We have plans today to go to our friend Lela's to play and swim. When we woke up this morning, the first thing Parker did was check outside to see what the weather was like. Even though it was super bright and sunny at the time I told him there was a chance of storms this afternoon to which he replied,"Hmm... well it's obviously nice right now Mom."
It sure is and obviously your vocabulary is growing as well:)

Undersuit?
Comment by Parker while at our family pool:
Parker: "Hey mom (giggling)Look! That guy is wearing his underwear to swim!
Me: "Ummm... no Park that is his bathing suit. It's called a Speedo and sometimes guy swimmers wear them."
Parker: Oh. Does dad wear one?
Me: (my turn to giggle) "Nope."
Parker: "In my superhero book, they wear speedos."
Well then... by all means Dad maybe you should get one since afterall superheroes wear them!

It's been a good day....
...well, besides having Parker climb into our bed at 5 am b/c he thought he heard thunder. Oh, then there was the incident with Lillie throwing up in the car all over herself, her carseat, and Parker's book. Of course there was not a tissue or wipe anywhere b/c I had just left the carwash 5 minutes prior. But still, it was a good day. Really. Once we cleaned up the cat poop all over the back step (b/c our cat has big time issues). Um... oh right the eggs... I let Parker help me bring in the groceries and well... let's just say he isn't as gentle and strong as he thought. But truly... it was a good day. There was that teeny tiny incident with the paint. But I take full blame. I wanted to do something fun with the kids. I didn't know they would try to paint themselves and give my kitchen table a new coat while they were at it. Seriously, our day was good. I wish Lillie would keep the watermelon pits out of her nose and Parker would stop laughing hysterically at her when she does it(what legitimate explanation could I possibly give the ER doctor for that?) but all in all it's been a fun filled, adventurous and satisfying day in our house. I can say that now that both kids are sound asleep in their beds, and the Wiggles are not singing and dancing on my TV and I am enjoying a popsicle without little scavengers hovering over me. Our day was good.
Just like you forget the pain of childbirth, you can easily forget the chaos and stresses you experience during the day once the lights are dim and all is quiet. Somehow God allows all the "inconveniences" to be put to rest and rejuventation to take place. Just in time to do it all over again in a few hours!
Thank You God for this moment in life. The one where craziness and quiet collide to make a house a home. The blessings you have bestowed upon me are so great I cannot even begin to thank you but each day I will try. Thank you for good days. Amen.

Grandma = Blue
So, this morning I overhear Parker and Lillie talking at breakfast. Parker was telling Lillie that "Grandma from MI's favorite color is blue." Grandpa had told him that. He then started naming things that were blue (the sky, his jammies, cookie monster etc...). I didn't think much of the conversation except that it was random, cute and kind of educational for Lillie.
Fast forward to this evening. I take Parker out of the bath and find Lillie in the living room surrounded by "stuff". She had her bathing suit, Parker's sippy, a flashlight, a baby bible, and a blankie (ALL BLUE not a pink or yellow item in sight!) and all in a pile by the front door. When I asked her what they were for she said "Grandma... wikes bue!"
Apparently Lillie has started a collection for Grandma in MI! Hope you need a Spiderman sippy and Thomas the train slippers Grandma... they are waiting here for you!

Not your standard response
Today at the pool Parker started coughing very loudly and continuously. After a minute of loud hacking noises, I looked over at him and asked if he was okay. To which he replied, "Yeah I'm ok Mom. I think I just have a dead camel in my throat!"
Alrighty then...guess frogs in throats are passe'

Which group are you in?
Conversation with Parker tonite before falling asleep:
Parker: "I don't know why Mom but God made lots of bad things like thunder and poisonous spiders and... asparagus."
Me: "Well, yeah but he also made lots of good things too right?"
Parker: "Yeah.. like you and Lillie and spiders that aren't poisonous."
I'm sooo glad to be in the non poisonous spider category. Hopefully noone reading this is in the "dreaded" asparagus group!

Using logic...
We bought Parker some water snails just for fun to keep in a tank in his room. We did not realize though that he would have such an obsession with wanting to touch them. After the dozenth time of telling him "don't take them out and play with them" he exasperatingly sighed, "But Daaadddd... it's called a pet so why can't I pet it?"
hmmm... yeah... explain that one....

In all fairness...
The language of love
This morning while eating breakfast, Lillie was trying to tell Trev and I something but we couldn't figure it out. We kept asking her a hundred questions and out of nowhere, Parker pipes up, "She is trying to tell you it's cold and wants it cut up." We looked at Lillie to see if that was right and to our suprise it was. Parker smiled and said nonchalantly, "I speak sister."
