Two weeks ago a little friend in Lillie's class lost her Daddy to cancer. Not sure exactly how to broach the subject but knowing it would come up, I waited for an opportunity to talk to her about it. Well, after school on Wednesday, I was strapping Lils in her carseat and she just blurted out,
"Kayla's daddy died. Did you know Mommy?" I nodded my head and told her I did. Her response back was,
"We no not have to be sad Mommy. Kayla's daddy had Jesus in his heart like us. It be ok Mommy."
WOW! If she doesn't learn another thing this year, that is more than ok with us! I am soo thankful her young impressionable brain was able to comprehend the most important part of this really sad situation. I am SO thankful that we found a wonderful, loving Christ-centered school that teaches more than just ABC's and reinforces everything we teach and act out at home.
Our greatest desire as parents is for our kids to know Jesus. NOT to just know ABOUT Him but REALLY know him and what a relationship with Him means and looks like. We strive for this everyday and everyday we fall short but by God's grace and with His wisdom we are planting those important seeds. At the end of this parenting journey if our kids do not REALLY know Jesus, I believe we failed as parents. They could be really good people who do really nice things but if they don't know Jesus and what He did for them, nothing else matters.
My hope and prayer is that Lillie and Parker are learning and observing this first-hand.
