off the growth charts...

As I am changing Lillie's diaper this morning I notice that it is pretty snug and she has a little rash going around her chunky thigh from where the tab was tight. Totally confused as to how she must have outgrown the size 3 diapers literally overnight even though yesterday they seemed to fit her just fine. I buy my diapers in bulk (usually 138 to a box) and I had just bought a new box yesterday so I'm also thinking that for the next month 1/2 she is stuck wearing too tight diapers (still very confused as to how she could have gained 8 pounds overnight). As I am taking out the garbage this morning I glance in the can and notice that the box of diapers I bought yesterday are size 1-2... oops...

chunky baby mystery solved:)

One for Lillie

So, up to this point Lillie has been mentioned in the blog but not much has been written directly about her. This is mostly due to the fact that she doesn't talk (except for a few signs), she isn't walking yet, and her big brother steals the spotlight from her A LOT! This is NOT to say that she isn't funny. As a matter of fact, Trev and I (although biased) think she is hysterical. She is laid back and pretty quiet but yet, she can make the funniest faces and the cutest gestures at any given moment. She turns one year old this Friday and I anticipate that I will be writing more and more about her in the coming months. Ready or not, Parker it's time to share the stage!

Willy (Silly) Parker

Parker is a pretty proficient communicator these days and can pretty much say whatever he wants and needs too. Once in awhile he still signs and especially now with Lillie signing he uses it a lot which is fine since they have their own language going on. His biggest "speech issue" is his "S" at the beginning of words. He either replaces it with "W" or "B" most of the time. As you can imagine this has resulted in some very funny words such as:

WOCKS= socks
WING WONGS= Sing songs

This morning though might have been the funniest of them all.

Parker's latest obsession is the story of David and Goliath. We own every version from the Children's Bible to Veggie Tales to the yellow and musty1959 cartoon version we found in the bible archive of our public library. We read it, watch it, and now act it out at least 20 times a day. So this morning Trev tells Parker he'll be Goliath and Parker can be David (since David was a boy and the hero of the story). Parker tells him "Wait, wait Dad, I need to get you a beer." ((A WHAT?!?!))
They start acting it out and Parker yells in his bravest voice when Goliath laughs at him, "You come to me with a sword and beer, but I come to you in the name of the Looorrrrdddd."
Trev and I burst out laughing. Of course Parker thought he was being funny and wanted to do it again and again and of course everytime Trev and I laughed harder.

that's the way the cookie crumbles...

Trev's grandparents took us and the kids out to dinner last night. Towards the end of dinner the waitress came over and told Parker that he got a treat with his meal and gave him a package containing 2 Oreos. He was thrilled and since he had finished everything on his plate proceeded to open the bag to eat his cookies. At about the time he took his first bite, Grandma looked over at him wistfully and said in a sad voice, "Parker, Grandma didn't get any cookies with her meal." (hoping he would feel bad and maybe offer her a piece). He looked at her and then looked at his cookie then looked back at her ( i was feeling proud b/c he gave every indication that he was going to share his cookie) and instead he said to her. "Maybe next time."

stall tactics

For the most part we have a great bedtime routine for the kids and for the most part they cooperate at night and go straight to bed when it is time. However, there are occasions where stall tactics do come into play especially when we have had an exceptionally fun day or overtiredness is a factor. There is the classic "I need a glass of water" or the "Mommy, read me one more story", and even the " I really gotta poop" which is non negotiable b/c when nature calls...nature calls

Tonite, Trev was going to be home real late and when it was time for bed Parker was really sad about not seeing Dad. He pulled all the stalling moves he knew (or so I thought ) in the hopes that maybe he would be awake when Trevis got home. As I closed his bedroom door telling him he had to go to bed in my sternest voice he pipes up, "Mommy? I weally need to pray to Jesus one last time?".

He sure knows how to pull one over on mom...

Baby Praise

We borrowed a Baby Praise DVD from our friend Lela a few months back that Parker really enjoyed. Today while visiting Lela and her daughter Jovey, Parker asked to borrow it again. One song in particular, Halelujah Parker really enjoys.
The words are,
Halelujahhh
Halelujahh
Halelujahh
Your love makes me sing.

Well tonite while giving Lillie a bath I put the DVD on and I could hear Parker singing to the DVD. When Halelujah came on, he started singing at the top of his lungs,

"Hello Lelaaaa...
Hello Lelaaaaa...
Hello Lelaaaa...
Your love maken me."

The things they come up with...

hunger pangs...

The other day when singing I got the joy joy joy down in my heart I explained to Parker that Jesus lives in our hearts and when we talk to Him he hears us. It's a tough concept and I didn't really expect him to understand it.

Fast forward to dinner time last night. I was in the process of making spaghetti and Parker kept bugging me to nibble some cheese, have a noodle, taste some salad. Finally, I told him he had to wait and that dinner would be VERY VERY soon. He turns to me and says, "Mommy my belly growling. I'm Weally hungry." Jesus lives in my tummy not my heart? I started to laugh and he goes, "Nooooo silly Parker. Jesus lives in my heart."

He's getting it and I love watching him understand more and more what God is all about.
