lost in translation

We had to go into Louisville for the morning to run a bunch of errands. Half way through the trip Parker asked me for a "treat". I told him if he behaved and listened then on our last stop he could have an Icee from Target. Well after running to a dozen different places and finally in the car on our way to Target, Lillie starts blabbering away and making a bunch of random baby sounds. Parker and I start laughing at her and he says to me, "Mom, ya know what Lillie just said?" I replied, "Nope Park do you?" His answer, "She said that she was really really thirsty and needed an Icee. Oh, and to get me one too."

Glad one of us can understand her...

Making connections

Today I had to bring Lillie to the doctor. Due to renovations in the office, they put us in this room where they were storing a bunch of medical equipment ( eye wash kit, x-ray machine, portable blood pressure monitor,etc...) Parker was pretty intrigued by everything and kept asking me questions like, "Mom, whats this do? Why is this here? Whats this for? Then he looks in the corner and notices an oxygen tank and excitedly exclaims, "Mom, LOOK! A balloon maker!!!!" ( You try explaining the difference between an oxygen tank and helium to a 3 year old.) As I tried to explain it in the simplest of terms ("It's air and it helps people breathe.") he goes," Oh, like the guy swimming in the fish tank at the aquarium!" AMAZING! How can someone who has only been living on the planet for 43 months make such connections?!?!?

snakes!

After doing an animal sticker book tonite with Parker, I asked him if he liked snakes. His reply:

" I like snakes mom... (big pause) ...when they're dead."

Me too Park... me too...

tag teaming

So, Lillie has this obession with elephants. Not really with how they look but how they sound. She loves to make the trumpeting sound they make with her mouth and she walks around all day with her little animal book turned to the elephant page blowing air through her lips. Parker and I get a kick out of it b/c we'll be eating or playing with blocks and out of nowhere she'll start making elephant sounds and get all excited at herself. Keep in mind this is a VERY random thing and she does it at any given time (she thinks about elephants a lot I guess).

Well we're at the grocery the other morning and the lady behind us on line starts talking to Lils. The lady was nice but kind of annoying with LOTS of gah gahing sounds and overly doting on Lillie. Lillie starts pointing to her glasses and Parker translates to the lady that Lillie likes her glasses. Then Lillie starts signing water (the lady was drinking a slurpee) and Parker translates to the lady that Lillie wants her drink. Then out of nowhere Lillie starts making elephant sounds and right as the lady starts laughing saying "Awww that's soo cute", Parker informs her, " She thinks you're an elephant!"

If I didn't know better I would have thought they were tag teaming against the crazy lady at Kroger. I apologized to the woman but inside I was thinking,

Score 1 for the kids
0 for the crazy lady

What you said mom?

The "Total random question of the day" from Parker at lunch...

"Mom, where's Ninevah?"

Good question Park. I always considered Geography my strong suit however, this time I was stumped. So, I looked it up. Apparently it is is in northern Iraq. I gave Parker this information and his reply...

"You racked what mom? What you said?"

He can get that rubber is made of petroleum but Iraq is still too advanced for his 3 year old brain:)

A simple explanation

Parker is really into reading lately and wants to know what every word says and what the different forms of punctuation mean. Out of nowhere this morning while we were driving ,our normally quiet reserved Lillie let out a high pitched scream. To this Parker says, "Mom, I think Lillie saw an exclamation point."
