Intro to Hockey

Tonite Trevis and Parker embarked on a guys night out to a Cincy Cyclones Hockey game! Our hockey knowledge is very limited (that's quite the understatement really) but wanting to expose our kids to all sorts of sporting events (that, and the fact you can't go wrong with $7 tickets and $1 drinks and hotdogs) the boys headed out on their manly excursion! They had a great time (demonstrated by Parker who came home checking me into the wall).

Pre-game pics: Although Lils did not go on this outing, she was included in the pre-game "festivities" (which included shouting GO CYCLONES in your deepest roughest voice and being tossed around by Dad who had some mean...ok, funny... faces)

Guitar Hero meets American Idol

So the ice and snow are gone but by golly, the rain has come with a vengeance! Here's the latest in free time play!

Breaking it down... gracefully

We signed Lillie up for a creative movement dance class at our YMCA and she is loving it. You have to know Lillie to know how funny this is. The girl is crazy athletic and can run like the wind, dribble a ball better than some 6 year olds, swim like a fish, and even beat Parker in a bike race. We weren't going to sign her up, but every Thursday when we were at the Y she would press her little face up against the glass and watch the other girls and showed such an interest, that we said, "Sure, why not?" Her favorite part is at the end when they play Duck Duck Goose (go figure!) Anyway, we aren't allowed in the room while they have their class so the pics are a little grainy b/c I had to take them thru the tinted windows (I guess this qualifies me as the resident lunatic ballet mom) Anyway, they have a recital at the end of the 8 weeks when we will be able to take "real" pics. The girls are just adoreable in their little tutus and leotards...

Time is tickin' away

Parker had plans to go to a friends house for the afternoon today and was super excited. We spent the morning riding bikes and playing outside to past the time away. Before we knew it, it was time to eat lunch and head out. I called the kids in to eat and Parker in a really suprised voice goes, "Really Mom? No way! It's already time for us to leave? WOW! We really bombed away time this morning."

haha.... I never heard it put quite like that before but considering Parker is a 5 year old boy slightly obsessed with warfare ammunitions of all sorts.. it was a good description.

Happy Easter!!!

GREAT ! Grandparents

Yesterday we took a day trip to Indiana to spend the day with Trev's grandparents. They are the neatest people and we are sooo thankful that we get to see them every month or so. The kids LOVE LOVE exploring around their house. There is always something yummy baking in the oven, crawling around the garden, and hiding in the woods. It was a beautiful mild day so we spent the whole time outdoors and caught a lot of it on camera.

Color me bad (or pink, or blue...)

Today was the 2nd of 3 egg coloring events (what can I say, we LOVE eggs around here?!?!) We invited some friends to join us for this session and we had soo much fun! The first time we colored we just did plain old eggs, this time we tried tye-dye (messy and icky if you ask me) and Friday's session are stickers and egg wraps... Who knew there were so many options?

Parker and Sarah were S-E-R-I-O-U-S

Lillie needed a little assistance.

I am now convinced that Parker can rock out to any activity!

Eggstra(get it??) Mom hands! Although Natalie required them to hold her up

DO YOU KNOW.... Play-doh?

We have had a lot, and I mean A LOT of inside playtime this winter. I have made more play doh pizzas, cookies and volcanoes then I ever thought imaginable! If you don't believe me, here are a few interesting things we discovered as a result of our cold, icy, winter indoor days. Did I not say we are in need of Spring and some fresh air around here??

Playdoh:
- gets slimy in water, completely gross in a bubble bath!
- smells terrible when lit on fire
- tastes like the Dead Sea
- gets really hard when put in the oven at 350 degrees
- can be removed from carpet or clothing by letting it completely dry then scrubbing it with a brush
- comes in 50 different colors (and when those colors are combined, they make a really gross brown color)
- can cause an allergic reaction if you have a gluten allergy
- turns your tongue colors when you lick it
- should be thrown out at the first signs of Spring and not taken out again until Thanksgiving

My two Dads...

As of 10:30 this morning I had 2 very sad kids missing their Daddy who is away on business for the entire week! At lunchtime we were just sitting and talking and Parker in a very thoughtful ponderance said to me, "Mom, I'm glad I have two Dad's. One in heaven and one who takes business trips. I mean God does a lot of work like making it snow and rain and stuff but he doesn't have to go anywhere and Dad is a really good wrestler and football player."

I love love love the simplicity of a child's way of thinking. When and how do we start thinking too much and over analyzing biblical concepts and principles that they get so complicated?

Blizzard 08

I promise to spare ALL of you the whining session that is festering inside me after the snow storm we had this weekend. I have never lived in a place that cannot handle snow like KY! On Saturday morning we woke up to about 9 inches and an additional 6 inches and blizzard conditions for the rest of the day. We were also alerted that it was illegal to drive in the county and anyone on the roads other than emergency vehicles would be tickets and fined. HUH!!?!? WHAT?!?!? Anyway, we made the most of it, and thankfully Trev and my sis and her fiance were all here so we had lots of fun company(oh, and did I mention a work crew?)

Disclaimer: For those friends and family in MI, Chicago and NY, you are allowed to laugh at our snow storm and the inadequate and humorous way we handled it. I know most of you have been buried in the white stuff for 3 months now.

The Storm Crew

The irony: We pulled out the playhouse when the temps were in the 60's last week... oops.

The snow in action...

We haven't bought a sled since moving to KY so Parker had to resort to boogie boarding down a hill:)

Lillie was cold and frustrated (she could barely walk with her snowsuit on)

Bruised Ego

This morning Parker was dancing around and acting silly. In his goofyness he fell and hit his head on the floor. I looked over at him and said "YIKES! That bruise is not going to be pretty!" To which he replied very emphatically, "You mean handsome mom. That bruise isn't going to be handsome!"

Dad for the day~

My best friend Lela and her 2 girls are going to spend a few nights with us soon. Both our husbands happen to be out of town on business the same week... so we figured why do it alone when we can hang out and our kids can play. When Parker heard the news his response was, "Oh cool. I can be the Dad for the week since there will be 5 girls and me. I can help you do stuff and wrestle with Jovey and Lillie at night and keep you all safe."

B/c that's what dad's do...

Wishful thinking...

It reached a whoppin 65 degrees here on Sunday (we won't mention the high today is 31 with snow and ice!) but the kids thought it was summer! They pulled out their beach chairs and the next thing I know Lillie is asking me to put water in her kiddie pool! Glad I'm not the only one desperate for warmer temps.

U's got a friend in me

Parker (while reading a book to me tonite): Mom, did you know "U" is "Q's" best friend?

Me:
Really? Cool. Did you learn that at school?

Parker:
Yeah...well, why isn't "Q" "U's" best friend? I don't get it. Shouldn't they both be best friends with each other?"

Me:
Well, "Q" needs "U" to make the "Qu" sound but "U" can stand alone.

Parker:
Oh. That could get lonely.
