As I get further along in this pregnancy and my stomach is beginning to grow a bit, Parker is starting to take notice. It's very funny to watch him try and understand and figure out what exactly is happening to me and why he has been banned from jumping on mommy or laying on my lap. Early on he would go up to random people like a 60 year old grandmother or a balding middle age man and pat their tummy and say "Bee bee (baby)". After several times of explaining that just mommy has the baby he stopped doing that.
His latest thing is to unzip my jacket half way and whisper "Hi beebee"and give my belly a kiss. Then he zips it back up and says "night night beebee" and goes on doing whatever it is that he was doing. It's very cute and make me think he will be a VERY sweet big brother.
This morning Parker dropped a toy underneath the car and he couldn't reach it. As I was retrieving it I forgot that my growing belly was in the way and accidentally squished the baby. She let me know with a nice left jab that I immediately returned with a rather loud and startling yelp. Parker looked at me kind of scared and I explained to him that the baby had kicked me and that mommy was okay. Just suprised. I could see him thinking about it and then he giggled and went on his way. A few minutes later when we were back in the house I was unloading the dishwasher and I hear Parker give a little scream. I look over and ask him what's wrong and he goes, "Beebee OUCH!" and then rubs his tummy. I asked him if the baby kicked him and he said "yeah" and then he giggled and ran off.
Little does he know but that little baby is going to change his life in MANY ways... Hope he's ready:)

Then there was .... 5!?!?!?
One of the greatest joys for Trev and I as parents is watching Parker understand a little more of who Jesus is and what exactly it is He does. Part of this process has been imitating us pray and adding his own touch.
Every night before bed we have always prayed with with him and in our prayers have thanked God for "Mommy", "Daddy", "Parker" and in the last few months we have added "Baby". Well, Parker has gotten the hang of this prayer and likes it a lot and prays it pretty consistently. He goes through his little routine and usually thanks God for Daddy 2 or 3 times and Mommy a few times and Parker ("Darter") a bunch of times and Baby and closes with "Meemen" (amen). Well one night while he was praying he did his thing "Daddy, Mommy, Daddy, Parker, Daddy, baby, Parker, Mommy.... Elmooooooooo!!!! Meemen". Little did we know but we had a 5th member of our family who just happened to be a little red monster. We are more than glad to have adopted Elmo into our family and we just found it funny (and sweet) that Parker thought it as easy as a prayer to have him join. No papers to fill out, no interviews, no redtape. Just a prayer and Elmo was a Willis. Already at the young age of 2, Parker is discovering the concept of God's family and how easy it is to be part of it and how welcoming He is!!!

wordplay
Every morning when Parker wakes up I bring him back to bed with me for a few minutes. During this time I ususally review what we have going on that day and where we will be going. Afterward we get out of bed, make Trev his lunch, bagel and coffee and then start our day.
Well, lately every morning when we lay in bed Parker says to me, "Dad, cough, gag gag, cough sounds." At first I was really confused and asked him if Dad was choking or coughing and he said "No!" Then he would do this big coughing, gagging choking thing and say "Dad." I left it at that and kind of forgot about it until... we were in the mall a few weeks ago and we passed a guy and Parker started up with his gagging and coughing sounds and said "Dad". I look over at the guy who was bald and about 60. He was just walking through the mall drinking a cup of coffee. He sure didn't look like Trev and there wasn't anything about him that reminded me of Trev. Then Parker starts pointing to his cup and making the sounds again. It hit me! The coughing and gagging sounds were "COUGHING" and Dad drinks "COFFEE"!!!!!!! Ohhhhhhhhhhh i gotcha now I tell Parker and he starts clapping and giggling happy that his mom is not a dummy and FINALLY figured out what he was saying.
2 year old are soo literal!

Seasons of life
I have discovered over the years that there are seasons of life. There is the season of college and dating, the season of marriage, the season of working 50+ hours a week and aiming for the next promotion, and at the present moment I find myself in the season of parenting. As with the seasons we each have our favorites. For some, the barefooted days of summer is the best. For others it is the cozy, wool sweaters of winter. I think parenting is my favorite season of life to this point. The joys of parenting have FAR surpassed any expectations I had and because I am a SAHM (stay at home mom) being a parent consumes my every second of every day. I have wanted an outlet to express this joy and the gift I have been given and I think I might have found it here. If noone ever looks at this page, I really don't care. For me, it is simply a way to jot down my thoughts and feelings and reflect on my days as Parker's mom (and soon to be baby #2's mom). I feel like our days fly by and time is just running away from me. I want to slow things down and make this stage last forever. I know I can't, and so this is one way to keep it all alive.
Until recently I use to think I lived a fairly borring life with pretty much the same routine everyday. I realize now though that my life is not borring. It is a gift and one that like the seasons, will be gone one day and I will long for it again. I have this awesome responsibility and privledge to teach Parker and our daughter wonderful life lessons, to play like I am 2 again and to love like I have never loved before.

the things guys do
So, Parker has started this thing where he spits on the living room carpet. At first I thought it was random spitting and I sat him down and explained we don't spit in the house. His response was. "Dad spptt!!!". He has seen Trev spit his gum out the car window so I thought maybe he was imitating this kind of gross habit. He didn't spit again and so I left it at that. Well, this morning we are throwing the football around the livingroom and out of nowhere he starts spitting again on the carpet. I stop what we are doing and tell him that we don't spit in the house. He then says, "Dad... ball... arggghhhh" and spits. IT ALL CAME TOGETHER!!! He was imitating the wonderful U of M football players that he and Dad watch on Saturdays. It took everything i had not to burst out laughing. Instead I explained that spitting is kind of yucky and unless he is brushing his teeth or mommy and daddy tell him to spit something out, food and spit really needs to stay in his mouth.
Sooooo... we go to the mall this afternoon and on our way out this guy spit in the parking lot as we walk pass him. You can guess what's coming...
Parker says rather loudly, "Ugh! NO! Mom and Dad NO!" and then makes this gross spitting sound. The things they remember. We definitely don't give them credit often enough for their smart little brains and the way they work:)
